Race 8 at Misp this weekend.

Posted March 1, 2007 by leswhite
Categories: General, Pictures

We will be back at Misp for race 8. Normal time and date, Saturday at Noon SL time.

The action is heating up! Will Kalel continue to come on strong? Will the Red Wings capitalize on their new lead in the team standings? Will Motorato expand her point lead over all?

Next weekend is a scheduled break, so come and get your points now. When we come back it’s going to be fierce competition leading to an exciting conclusion as the best riders in SL light it up, full throttle.

A reminder on how access works now:  anyone in the SL-MRA will have access to Misp until Noon SL time. Starting at Noon, when qualifying begins,  only members of MotoSL group will be allowed to enter. Don’t ask to TP a friend in or to have them added to the MotoSL list if they are not going to ride.

This will keep unawares from disturbing the race and also greatly reduce the lag spike that an arriving av makes.

If you do bring friends for the first time, it would speed things up if you explain to them the de-script rules and maybe take them over to the sign and help them before we get started. As you know, after about 10 minutes of people not being able to remove attachments…the boot comes out! I’d really like to save the 10 minutes and the booting :)

Here’s a couple cool pics from Domino and Matt

Upcoming race, and some news.

Back to Snowpeach next race for more exciting action.

All active riders and team members from this season have been asked to join the new MotoSL group. This group will help with a couple things, he first being race notices! I’m hoping this will allow me to at least inform the active racers in-game of the next event.

The second thing is crowd control. I have a much lower blood pressure when we are not invaded mid-race by unaware people doing things like grabbing the bikes during qualifing runs. So here’s what we are going to try:

An hour or so before the event the sim will be set to allow only SL-MRA and MotoSL members to enter.

Before qualifying starts the sim will be set to allow ONLY MotoSL members to enter, and building will be turned off.

The idea here is to allow anyone in the bike group (who I really wish I could send notices to…) to show up and watch the race as long as they get there before it starts. It will allow MotoSL members (riders and managers) to arrive anytime during the event.

On the development front, work continues on Endurance racing. Dynamic tire development is going nicely and should be in the rezzer as a TEST Hawk soon.

A bit of track news: Mooz is now open and listed in Classifieds and Land Search. This will no doubt increase the number of people there quite a bit. It will mean more car dodging.

Raver Bellow has informed me that he is going to undertake construction of a new race track built to MotoSL specs. Construction is slated to start in a weeks time. We can look forward to running some test there soon as it’s able.

Gas it!

It’s a draw! Er, no it’s not!

You might notice in the point standings that some people share the same points and the same standings.
In fact there are no draws in MotoSL and this is just me saving some time when listing them. Here is how a tie in standings is broken :

-most wins
if still tied;
-most podiums
if still tied;
-most pole positions
if still tied;
-next best race finish
if still tied;
-fight to the death.

From now on i’ll make sure the top 10 contain no draws; below that, no promises :)

Stillwack Stilman of Stilman Motors took the win today in an action packed event at the new track in Snowpeach.
The track produced some serious racing and some hard crashing as you’ll see in the pictures below. The full Race Report is up as well as updated Point Standings.

There was one new rule introduced today:

***Riders who show up late for qualifying, but before the racing, may be slotted into the back of the 3rd group if the rider already has points in the series and the 3rd group has the space.

Race 6 will be at mooz. The time and date have been posted to Upcoming Events

Mooz, Saturday, Noon SL, Chicane?

Thanks to Bibi Bayliss, Timmahy Widget, Motorato Ware, Bike Racer, Abacus Mimistrobell and everyone for passing me some great pics. The ones with the name tags are mine. oops!

High Noon Showdown at Snowpeach.

**Don’t forget that we have moved the races up to 12:00 noon SL time.

There has been a lot of testing going on at Snowpeach this week in anticipation of Saturdays race. Many riders took advantage of the week off to sharping some skills and tune the new settings. From the lap times observed from the week of testing it’s looking like we could have some epic racing coming up. The next few weeks will be an intense battle for points. Motorato has a nice lead in the rider standings. Can she hold it? OMG Racing is currently the top scoring team with Titan, Red Wings, Stilman all right behind.

It’s shaping up to be a great season!

RD Racing forms a MotoSL team.

Raver bellow of Raver Designs, long known for his involvement with top level stock car racing in SL, has formed a team. He’ll be riding bike #77 (with a kneepuck only on the left side) and be looking for a fast teammate to sit on his second bike.

This will bring to a close registration for season 2 of MotoSL. New teams will not be allowed unless some currently active teams drop out. Anyone, on a team or not, can still come out and try to qualify on race day for free.

Race 5 booked for Snowpeach.

Posted February 5, 2007 by leswhite
Categories: General

brands-hatch-sign440.jpg

Race 5 will be this Saturday Feb 10th at 12 Noon SLtime.

The location will be Snowpeach. Snowpeach was made by Count Bayliss and has a layout based on the real life Brands Hatch track. The track is open to SL-MRA members so get there and start practicing and finding the right settings for it.

//Here’s the notecard from the sign at snowpeach:

History of Brands Hatch,

There has been a race track at Brands since 1926, when the land was first used for grass track bike racing. In those days, competitors ran anti-clockwise, but the direction of the circuit was switched in 1954.
The heritage of Brands is vast – name any famous driver from the last 50 years or so and they are bound to have cut their teeth racing there. Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Barry Sheene, Jack Brabham, Derek Minter, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ayrton Senna and current F1 star Jenson Button are among the countless drivers to have raced and won at Brands over the years.
In 1983, MotorSport Vision Chief-Executive Jonathan Palmer made his Formula One debut at the Kent circuit with a Williams FW08C. Two years later, Nigel Mansell scored his first Grand Prix victory there, also winning the final F1 race at Brands in 1986.
Since then, the cream of world motor racing has appeared at Brands Hatch, and the World Superbike Championship has become an annual pilgrimage for bike fans all over the globe. The circuit’s unique combination of dips, cambers, fearsome corners and hills means it is still one of the world’s favourite racing circuits, and with great racing and constant development from MSV continues to go from strength to strength.

New bikes, rezzer and some news.

Posted February 4, 2007 by leswhite
Categories: Bikes, General, Updates

updating-the-bikes.jpgThe bikes have been updated again. New with this update is a setting for final gear ratio. Now you can swap out sprockets at different tracks. You can read more about the gears here.

Some settings have been expanded to allow more options. Trail, Engine Braking and Disk Braking now have 5 settings instead of three. The two new settings added for each are inbetween the old ones. Increasing definition, but not range.

The menu for the bikes has been cleaned up a little with most buttons now under the sub menu of Set Up.

Settings for the bikes have been erased. The good news is that we now have a new system for saving set ups. All setups will now be stored on a single notecard in the rezzer which i will update. This allows the scripts to be updated without losing setup info. This new system takes a second longer to make the bike ready. You know it’s ready when it says it’s setup. If you jump on before it will eject you when it sets the seat up.

To have your settings saved you need to first set up your bike then select Set Up/Output. This will spam your settings to chat. Cut and paste this output to me. I’ll cut and paste it to the notecards in the rezzer. I need to know if your set up is for one sim or I’ll assume it’s for all.

Crashing has changed a little bit. It used to be eject/crash, now it’s crash/eject/continue crashing. Let me know what you think of that.

A few other things you might not notice have been cleaned up. Tires are still half developed though further planned. After tires the bikes development should slow down and just involve tweaking until the end of season, but you never know!

One more bit of news. The street version of the Hawk 10R we race is ready to goto version 1.3. This means it’s got all the current options and tunings of our race bikes. I’m going to use the street Hawk10r v1.3 as the base for the team members take home bikes. I think the bike development is mostly stable on the Hawk 10R for this season and this bike should fairly represent the model we are racing this year. Maybe i can get these out sunday. Maybe :)

Meanwhile, come to Snowpeach for practice because race 5 will be there next Saturday!

New track is open for testing!

You’ve all been waiting to try out Brands Hatch in Snowpeach and now you can!

Count and Bibi Bayliss have opened access to allow SL-MRA members in for testing. We will be there all weekend running it in, finding problems and sorting things.

To find it look up Snowpeach in the mapper.

Reminder : there will not be a point race this weeked.

Development Never Stops

Posted February 2, 2007 by leswhite
Categories: Bikes, General, Updates

In MotoSL we race developmental prototype bikes. That means the bikes we finish the series with will be far removed from the bikes we started with. Some of the new things developed for this series include crashing, settings for engine braking, disk braking, suspension, rake, and trail.

Now we have a new setting that is coming into play this weekend. In the main menu you will find “Gearing”. This allows you to choose the number of teeth on the back sprocket. The effect is an overall change of gearing allowing riders to set the transmission towards top speed or faster acceleration.

  • 38 teeth – this is our current gearing. slow accel and around 260kmph top speed.
  • 39 teeth – the new default, this is geared a little lower. it will allow quicker accel up the gears and lower top speed of around 240kmph.
  • 40 teeth – this is geared way low. it will get up to 6th fast then top out around 220kmph.

Different gearing will allow riders options at different tracks. You might use 40 teeth at Misp for all the tight stuff, but 39 or 38 at the more open Mooz. This update will require changes to the settings script, meaning riders will lose their settings and will have to reset them. I’m also looking at a whole new method of saving all rider prefs to a single notecard, but that’s another story!

Check out TEST Hawk10R in the rezzer at Mooz for a preview,

Also in development news, Domino Marama posted some solid information on what’s in store for the timing system. I’ve put his info up here on a new page for the timing system. We’ve got to get him set up for posting proper here.

The objective with this series is to keep moving in a forward direction. We will continue to develop the finest motorcycles, race tracks, timing systems and racing events in SL. ‘Cause racers don’t sit still.

We take a one week break this weekend having completed the first 4 races, or 1/3 of the series. We start back up next weekend for race 5. Where you keep asking? I want to say Brands Hatch in Snowpeach. It’s not open to the public and we will need testing and practice time there before the race. If all goes well it should be open for testing this weekend. The fall back track for race 5 will be Mooz. The next 4 races will be consecutive and then another break before the final 4 races.

In Team news, Hollie Wood has joined Mara Kohl on the House of Kats racing team. Hollie has come on strong her first two races and will be a great addition to the team.

A new team is signed called Shiva Racing fronted by Genocide Nasu. Both Shiva Racing and Reflex racing will have new bikes in the rezzers shortly.

Stay tuned for more info.
